How do I resize an image?

When posting a picture online or sending a picture in an e-mail it may be necessary to resize the image to keep the image small in size and dimension so it can properly fit on a page. Below are the steps on how you can rotate your images in each of the major image editors as well as links to web pages that can resize images for you.

• Tip: If you want to only use a portion of the image and not resize the full image, crop the image.

Online solution

There are several websites that will allow users to resize their images without having to use one of the below software programs. If you do not have access to any of the programs and don't wish to download any new programs you may want to try one of the below online services.

IrfanView

Open the image in IrfanView

Click Image and then Resize/Resample

Either specify the size in pixels you wish to make the image or click the half button to cut the image size in half. Note: each time the half button is pressed it'll reduce the image in half.

Picasa

Open Google Picasa and browse to the image location and double-click the image you wish to resize.

Once the image has been opened click the Export button on the bottom of the window.

In the Export to Folder window decrease the size by dragging the Resize to: bar to the left.

The GIMP

Open the image in The GIMP.

Click Image at the top of the image tool bar.

Click Scale Image

In the Image size specify the dimensions you wish to use and then click the Scale button.

Microsoft Paint users

Microsoft Paint users can use the Stretch/Skew option under the Image drop-down menu; however, this option often degrades the overall quality of the image. We suggest users use one of the above programs or solutions for resizing their images instead.

Adobe Photoshop users

Open the image in Adobe Photoshop.

Click Image

Click Image size

Specify the size of the image you wish to have. It's often easier for most users to specify the size using pixels as the measurement.

Microsoft Office Picture Manager Users

Open the image in Microsoft Office Picture Manager

Click Edit Pictures...

Click resize

Choose option Predefined or custom size.

Hide data behind the image

If you’re looking to hide files on your PC hard drive, you may have read about ways to encrypt folders or change the attributes on a file so that they cannot be accessed by prying eyes. However, a lot of times hiding files or folders in that way requires that you install some sort of software on your computer, which could then be spotted by someone else.

I am gonna show you how to hide data behind the image.

Syntax for used command

copy /b imagefile.jpg + datafile newimagefile.jpg

Note that: Datafile should with extension 

Problem: You have a data file and a jpg image and you want to hide data file behind the image.

1. Create a folder on your hard drive, i.e. C:\Test and put in all of the files that you want to hide into that folder. Also, place the image that you will be using to hide the files in.                                                                             
2. Now select all of the files that you want to hide, right-click on them, and choose the option to add them to a compressed ZIP or RAR file. Only select the files you want to hide, not the picture. Name it whatever you want, i,e. “Hidden.rar”.                                                                                   
3. Now here’s the fun part! Click on Start, and then click on Run. Type in “CMD” without the quotes and press Enter. You should now see the command prompt window open. Type in “CD \” to get to the root directory. Then type CD and the directory name that you created, i.e. “CD Test“.                                                                                                       
4. Now type in the following line:                                                                                                                                                                                  C:\>copy /b image.jpg + Hidden.rar image2.jpg                                                                                                                         and press Enter. 1 file<s> copied message will appear and you have done                                                                                                               
5. image2.jpg file created, your data is hidden behind this new image file.

To get data back just simply change the extension name to your data file extension, in this example change the newly created .jpg image to .rar.

                                                or

Right click on image and select "Open With" choose application according to your data file extension.

Note:

1. You can hide any data file not only .rar file.                                               
2. .rar files are preferred to hide data because of safe and large amount of data can be hidden.

One more example:

You have the following files:

1. A a.vob data file, you have to hide this file

2. A a.jpg image file, you have to hide your data behind this file

How to Subscribe to News Feeds and Blogs in Thunderbird

RSS is a protocol used by websites that sends a message to subscribers whenever the website is updated. (This stream of updates from a website is commonly called a "news feed" or "RSS feed".) RSS feeds are commonly used by blogs, but more traditional websites use RSS as well. When you subscribe to a site's RSS feed, updates are automatically delivered to your news reader (for example, Thunderbird) which eliminates the need to check each website individually for new content.

When you use Thunderbird to handle your RSS feeds, you can use the same format and tools that your are familiar with from managing your email messages.

Step 1: Create an RSS Account

First you must create an account in Thunderbird for your RSS feeds.

1. In the Menu Bar, click File | New | Other Accounts. The Account Wizard           window appears.

2. Select Blogs & News Feeds, then click Next.

3. Type a name for your RSS account in the Account Name box, then click             Next.

4. Click Finish. Your new account will now appear in Thunderbird's folder pane.

Step 2: Subscribe to Feeds

Next, choose the feeds you want to subscribe to.

1. Use your web browser to open a website that you want to subscribe to. Most media sites and blogs that are regularly updated have RSS feeds.

2. Look for an RSS icon or text link on the site. On most sites the RSS link appears at the bottom or on the side of the home page.

3. Right-click on the RSS link and copy the link’s address. (If you use Mozilla Firefox, click “Copy Link Location” on the context menu. If you use Google Chrome, click “Copy link address”.)

NOTE: On some large websites, the home page’s RSS hyperlink is not a feed itself, but a link to a set of feeds provided by the site. For example, a major media site may have different feeds for its news, sports and entertainment sections. Just click the RSS icon on the home page, then perform Step 3 on the page that hosts all the site’s feeds.

4. In Thunderbird, click your RSS account name in the folders pane.

5. Click Manage subscriptions.

6. In the Feed URL box, right-click and paste the link address from the website.

7. Click Add. Your newly subscribed feed now appears under your RSS account folder in the folder pane.

Step 3: Read and Manage RSS Feeds

Reading and managing your RSS feeds is as easy as using your email in Thunderbird.

To read a feed

1. Click Get Mail to download all the newest feed messages, along with your regular email messages.

2. In the folder pane, click on the subscribed feed whose content you want to read. A list of unread messages from the feed appears in the message list pane.

3. Click on a message in the message list.

4. Read the article in the message body. If you’d like to see the article on the website, click the link in the message header next to Website.

NOTE: If your message displays as an article summary rather than the full article, look for these two options in Thunderbird:                                        

1. Select a message from the message list, then click View | Feed Message Body As, then select Web Page.

2. In Tools | Account Settings, select the name of your RSS account and uncheck "By default, show the article summary instead of loading the web page."

To organize your feeds

You can create email-style folders to group individual feeds:

1. Click on your RSS feeds account name to select it.

2. Click File | New | Folder. The New Folder dialog box appears.

3. Type a name for your new folder, then click Create Folder.

NOTE: To create subfolders of your folders, first select the folder you want as the parent folder, then click File | New | Subfolder.

Alternatively, you can organize your feeds by creating additional RSS accounts. Just repeat Step 1: Create for every account you want to create, giving each one a different name.

Tips

• To quickly mark a feed's messages as all read, so they no longer appear in bold type, press Shift + C while the feed is selected.
• For options on how often Thunderbird checks for new feed messages and deletes old ones, click on Tools | Account Settings, then click on the name of your feeds account. Click on Disc Space below your account name for more options.
• Use the Quick Filter toolbar to save time if you're getting a lot of messages from a feed.
